Woman Sitting at the Machine Thinking: Poems 1978–1987

Brodine, Kare. Red Letter Press, 1990 (1st Ed.). Softbound. Afterword by Janet Sutherland. Book design by Helen Gilbert. Cover design by Eve Anthony. Activist/poet Brodine's final book, published posthumously by leftwing publishers Red Letter (their ad insert gives a fascinating glimpse at early 1990s radical publishing aesthetics). Includes a preface by proletarian literature icon Meridel Le Sueur and an intro by Merle Woo, the embattled UC Berkeley professor whose defense committee Brodine helped coordinate. Brodine's cultural impact looms large: she was an editor at both Kelsey Street Press and the Berkeley Poets Co-op, and was featured at Mainstream Exiles: A Lesbian and Gay Men's Cultural Festival in 1980 at San Francisco's Valencia Tool & Die.

Tight, square, uncreased spine. Clean, unmarked interior. Some rubbing and light edge-wear to the covers. 104 pp. Poetry.
