Stories of God
Rilke, Rainer Maria. W. W. Norton & Company, 1932 (Stated 1st American Ed.). Hardbound. Translated by M. D. Herter Norton and Nora Purtscher-Wydenbruck. A scarce jacketed copy of this early prose work by the young poet, written after a trip to Russia spurred his budding mystic tendencies; it wasn't translated into and published in English until more than three decades later. Handsomely printed and bound with a deckle edge and a jacket featuring geometric type and a photo that depicts a reproduction of Rodin's Hand of God, 'doubly appropriate to this book,' according to the flap copy, 'since Rilke was for some years Rodin's secretary.'
Tight, square spine. Clean, unmarked interior. Some sunning/toning to the boards, but gilt remains fairly bright. Light toning to the end-sheets. Mylar-protected jacket has some heavy edge-wear, resulting in some chips and other larger areas of loss at the extremities.
