The Words of a Woman Who Breathes Fire
Tsui, Kitty. Spinsters, Ink, 1983 (Stated 1st Ed.). Softbound. Cover photo by Cathy Cade. Dedication translation and calligraphy by Joan Wai. Typesetting by Ann Flanagan. The first known book by an Asian American lesbian, this poetry collection was published by now time-honored feminist press Spinsters, Ink and blurbed by fellow second-wave powerhouses Karen Brodine and Judy Grahn. Tsui, who contributed the cover design and lettering and is brilliantly captured in a charcoal portrait by Karen Sjöholm on page 47, began a career as a medal-winning competitive bodybuilder after the death of a friend, and would go on to come out as a prominent leatherwoman in 1988.
Tight, square, uncreased spine. Clean, unmarked interior. Areas of light edge-wear and light sunning/rubbing to the covers, but no other notable wear. 70 pp. Poetry.
