The Dream of a Common Language: Poems 1974–1977

Rich, Adrienne. W. W. Norton & Company, 1978. Softbound. Design by Antonina Krass. Known for its tripartite structure, this collection was the first book Rich published after coming out of the closet in 1976, and it would wield enormous influence in the wave of feminist lit generated in subsequent years. A lovely edition featuring matte wraps with slabby, swanlike cover lettering anchored by wide-hipped g's, courtesy of often overlooked midcentury calligrapher and jacket designer Rosalind Lorber, who made the rounds in New York publishing over the decades, creating work for Random House and Scribners in addition to Norton.

Spine is tight, but has a subtle lean and some sunning. Former seller stamp to the first blank leaf, but interior is else clean and unmarked. Some bumped corners and a few small areas of soiling to the covers. 77 pp. Poetry.
