The Poems of Jonathan Swift
Swift. Jonathan. Collier Books, 1967 (2nd Printing). Softbound. In his brain-teasing poem, 'On the Vowels', the famed Irish satirist writes: 'One of us in glass is set / One of us you'll find in jet / T'other you may see in tin / And the fourth a box within /If the fifth you should pursue / It can never fly from you.' This collection, edited and introduced by folklorist Padraic Colum (a contributor to Emma Goldman's Mother Earth magazine and the writer of the script for the 1954 RKO Pictures stop-motion adaptation of Hansel and Gretel), features a cheekily calligraphic cover by 'left-handed designer' Seymour Chwast, who Steven Heller notes is known for 'his ability to wed sophistication to pop and pop to old and new vernaculars'.
Tight, square spine has some light cosmetic wear. Clean, unmarked interior. Some light edge-wear and rubbing/soiling to the covers. 126 pp. Poetry.
