The New Olympia Reader
Girodias, Maurice (Ed.). The Olympia Press, 1970 (1st Ed., 1st Printing). Hardbound. A latter-day revival showcasing the best writing from the notorious dirty-book publisher, founded by Girodias, who got his start at the age of 15 at his father's Obelisk Press, when he illustrated the menacing crab featured on the cover of Henry Miller's Tropic of Cancer. Lovely book with rounded spine, sexy drawings ranging in their minimalist intensity by Kasoundra (Germaine Greer dedicated The Female Eunuch to the artist, calling her 'as strong as a rope of steel and as soft as a sigh'), and a star-studded list of contributors including Barry Malzberg, Diane di Prima, Clarence Major, and William Burroughs III.
Tight spine. Clean, unmarked interior. Foil stamping to spine remains bright. Corners are heavily bumped at the fore-edge foot of both boards. There is some subtle toning and buckling to a few pages of the front and back matter, and a thin, vertical line of bleaching to the front board. Jacket has some moderate edge-wear. 891 pp. Featured Rare & Collectible.
