Two by Fante
Fante, John. The Wine of Youth: Selected Stories. Black Sparrow Press, 1999 (6th Printing). Softbound. $30.
Fante, John. The Brotherhood of the Grape. Black Sparrow Press, 1999 (5th Printing). Softbound. $35.
Black Sparrow Press began posthumously publishing Fante's then out-of-print works in the late 1970s, at the suggestion of house specialty Charles Bukowski ('Fante was my god,' he said), who had happened upon the writer's work in the Los Angeles Public Library. The Wine of Youth was first released in 1985, followed by the previously unpublished The Brotherhood of the Grape a year later, both titles distinguished by the press's signature matte covers and design by self-taught virtuoso Barbara Martin.
Both books have tight, square spines, although The Brotherhood's spine has endured a bit of sunning. Both have clean, unmarked interiors, some gently bumped corners, and a few small, subtle areas of soiling to the covers. Featured Rare & Collectible.
