A lovely cover design by Patricia de Groot (a Provincetown socialite who played host to John Waters), with a harvest-colored motif that puts the 'folk' in folk horror, and elegantly arranged type touting 'the world-famous The Lottery', the story that spawned a torrent of letters Jackson said ranged between 'bewilderment, speculation and plain old-fashioned abuse'. Zoë Heller would later quip, 'The number of people who expected Mrs. Hutchinson to win a Bendix washing machine at the end would amaze you.'
Spine has a faint slump and some creasing. Clean, unmarked interior. Some moderate to heavy toning to the pages and inside covers. Some moderate edge-wear. The back fore-edge-corner has been bumped at the head. 753 pp. Featured Rare & Collectible.
