The Shining
King, Stephen. Doubleday & Company, 1977 (Book Club Ed.). Hardbound. An incredible jacket design by Al Nagy with art by Dave Christensen, picturing Wendy Torrance as the author intended, a Jessica Lange type rather than the 'screaming dishrag' he notoriously claimed Shelley Duvall portrayed in Stanley Kubrick's film adaptation. Other details unique to the novel depicted in the beautiful wraparound watercolor include a weaponized roque mallet, a Victorian version of the Overlook Hotel, and an array of vicious topiary beasts, which were cinematically replaced with a maze partly due to special-effects challenges.
Tight, square spine. Former owner name to the front flyleaf, but interior is else clean and unmarked. Some bumped corners, but no other notable wear to the book. Mylar-protected jacket has some areas of moderate to heavy edge-wear. 447 pp. Featured Rare & Collectible.
