The Magus
Fowles, John. Little, Brown and Company, 1965 (Book Club Ed.). Hardbound. A distinctly kitsch jacket by Tom Adams, who also created covers for Fowles's The Collector and The French Lieutenant's Woman. Best known for his 'alarmingly realistic' Agatha Christie covers (according to biographer Janet Morgan), Adams got his start designing posters for Jimi Hendrix, Soft Machine, and liquid light shows by Mark Boyle, and was eventually approached by Lou Reed, who was drawn to the artist after seeing his crime novel covers, leading to Adams's surrealist cityscape covering the performer's first solo album.
Square spine. Front hinge is in the very early stages of separating from the text block; however, book remains complete and sound overall. Former owner name to the front flyleaf, but interior is else clean and unmarked. Some very light sunning to boards, but no other notable shelf-wear to the book. Mylar-protected jacket has some areas of moderate to heavy edge-wear. 606 pp. Featured Rare & Collectible.
