Suburbia
Owens, Bill. Straight Arrow Books, 1973. Softbound. Signed and dated by Owens to the half-title. A seminal study in suburban aesthetics, one the LA Times said 'rouses pity, contempt, laughter, and self-recognition,' this book gives a rec-room–to–garage glimpse at the once ascendant suburban spirit. Its design, complete with real estate–inspired title, is by Rolling Stone art editor and Whole Earth catalog relaunch designer Jon Goodchild, who like Owens was raised on a farm; he would eventually settle in Bolinas, California, where for years he methodically uprooted the road sign to the town each time it was reinstalled by the state DOT.
Tight, square, uncreased spine. Unmarked interior. There is some moderate sunning and wear to the covers, as well as a few small areas of light soiling. There are a couple other very small areas of soiling to the interior, as well as a dampstain affecting the bottom edge of the latter half of the book. Featured Rare & Collectible.
