Art and Revolution: Ernst Neizvestny and the Role of the Artist in the USSR
Berger, John. Pantheon Books, 1969. Softbound. Signed by Neizvestny to the half-title, alongside an expressive moai-esque sketch in this copy, released in an edition which features bold cover design by Swiss New Typography proponent Fred Troller. Berger teams with frequent photographic collaborator Jean Mohr to document the life of the artist who Arthur Miller called a 'prophet of the future', and who was famously insulted by Khrushchev—despite the premier's comparison of the artist's work to the view up a toilet while someone is sitting on it, his family would solicit Neizvestny to design his grave after his death in 1971.
Tight, square, uncreased spine. Clean, unmarked interior. Only very light shelf-wear. 191 pp. Featured Rare & Collectible.
