Borges, Jorge Luis. Alianza Editorial, 1995. Softbound. An elegant Spanish edition of the metafiction masterpiece, featuring a Daniel Gil–designed cover printed on coated matte wraps and depicting a mind-blowing, cerebral cutaway collaged from fragments of etchings, alongside metallic titling set in Heinrich Jost's classic geometric slab serif, Beton. Gil, who studied under typographic master Otl Aicher at the Ulm School of Design, served as Alianza's art director for nearly 30 years, during which time he designed over 4,000 covers, including a number of striking treatments of works by Borges.

Tight, square, uncreased spine. Clean, unmarked interior. Only very gentle shelf-wear. 206 pp. Foreign Language.
