A posthumous distillation of Watts's philosophy, first published in the wake of his mysterious death, after a period of heavy drinking, at the bohemian compound Druid Heights. His body was quickly whisked away and cremated by Buddhist monks on a wooden pyre at nearby Muir Beach. The self-proclaimed 'philosophical entertainer' first rose to prominence via a weekly radio program, laying the groundwork for the counterculture's embrace of eastern mysticism in the 1960s.
