Journey of Awakening: A Meditator's Guidebook
Ram Dass and Daniel Goleman (Ed.), with Dwarkenath Bonner and Ram Dev (Dale Borglum). Bantam Books, 1978 (3rd Bantam Printing). Softbound. Before being renamed Ram Dass, Richard Alpert helped conduct the infamous Harvard 'Good Friday Experiment' (in which one bad-tripping subject was injected with Thorazine after believing he'd been chosen to announce the Messiah's return), along with Timothy Leary, whom he would later denounce as a 'cop informant'. This mass-market manual, illustrated with whimsically minimalist line drawings by Vincent Piazza and covered with mushy lettering and netsuke trick photography, helped cement the jolly-visaged psychologist's reputation as a spiritual guru.
Tight, square spine has some cosmetic creasing. Clean, unmarked interior. Some light to moderate edge-wear and a two-inch crease to the front cover, but nice solid copy overall. 395 pp. Mass-Market Paperbacks.
