Magic, Supernaturalism and Religion
Seligmann, Kurt. Pantheon Books, 1971. Hardbound. Seligmann, a Swiss-born painter and engraver known for his Dionysian depictions of sea-tinted grotesques, exhibits his singularly occult acumen in this classic survey—he fell out with André Breton after disputing the iconic surrealist's knowledge of tarot. He counted among his students Robert Motherwell and Alan Vega, and would eventually meet his demise when, in an attempt at shooting birdseed-thieving rats, he slipped and accidentally shot himself in the head.
