Bulwer-Lytton, Edward. Spiritual Fiction Publications, 1989. The esoteric classic that influenced Helena Blavatsky, Annie Besant, and Rudolf Steiner (who asserted that the Guardian of the Threshold described in the novel is an actual astral being), and caused multiple initiatory orders, despite the writer's insistent denials, to claim him as their leader. Bulwer-Lytton is commonly known for coining the phrases, 'the great unwashed', 'pursuit of the almighty dollar', 'the pen is mightier than the sword', and the much-lampooned opening, 'It was a dark and stormy night.'

Tight, square spine has some cosmetic creasing. Former owner stamps to the half-title, but interior is else clean and unmarked. Some areas of soiling to the covers, as well a s a three-inch crease to the back cover at the fore-edge head. 410 pp. Featured Rare & Collectible.
