The I Ching or Book of Changes
Wilhelm, Richard (Trans.) and Cary F. Baynes (Trans.). Princeton University Press, 1969 (3rd Ed.). Hardbound. Foreword by C. G. Jung. Preface by Hellmut Wilhelm. Design by Bert Clarke. Parts of the I Ching are 3,000 years old, and its hexagram-based system of cleromancy probably evolved from a divinatory method involving the heating of a tortoise's soft shell underlayer and reading the patterns of cracking that resulted. This iconic Bollingen Series translation features an equally iconic jacket by E. McKnight Kauffer, who said, 'We live in . . . an age of T-squares and compasses. The attention therefore is attracted by the geometric, held by the geometric, and geometric design is retained longer in the memory.'
Tight, square spine. There are two Bertrand Russell quotes written on the front flyleaf, but interior is else clean and unmarked. Gilt to spine remains bright. No notable shelf-wear to the book. Mylar protected jacket has a blacked-out price and a few small areas of very gentle edge-wear. 740 pp. Spirituality/Esoterica.
