Concerning Subud
Bennett, J. G. University Books, 1959 (2nd Ed.). Hardbound. While serving as a subaltern in the Royal Engineers during World War I, Bennett was blown off his motorcycle due to an exploding shell, leading to a six-day coma and out-of-body experience, during which it became 'perfectly clear . . . that being dead is quite unlike being very ill or very weak or helpless.' The experience would set him on a spiritual quest that led to encounters with Gurdjieff and P. D. Ouspensky, as well as Muhammad Subuh Sumohadiwidjojo, whose Subud movement is explored in this mid-century metaphysical classic.
