The Egyptian Book of the Dead: The Papyrus of Ani in the British Museum
Budge, E. A. Wallis (Trans.). Dover Publications, 1967 (Later Printing). Softbound. Yeats, Joyce, and James Fraser are just a few of the writers who studied and were influenced by Budge's interpretation of this ancient text, here reissued in an appealing Dover edition with a cover by Theodore Menten, known for his prolific output as author/editor of many of Dover's art-historical monographs and clip-art anthologies. As British Museum Egyptology curator, Budge dabbled in paranormal experiments and revolutionized the field by asserting that the Osiris cult was indigenous to Africa rather than introduced by foreign conquerors.
Tight, square spine has some sunning. Clean, unmarked interior. Some bumped corners and light edge-wear, as well as a two-inch crease to the front cover at the foot. 377 pp. Western Esotericism.
