The Dead Man
Bataille, Georges. Ediciones La Calavera, 1989. Softbound. Translated by Jayne Austen (Keith Sanborn). Illustrated by Andy Masson (Rick Pieto). Intro by Lord Ouch. Filmmaker Sanborn first picked up a copy of Bataille's little-known work, Le Mort, in a Paris bookstore in 1983, and was struck by the brief phrases centered at the foot of each page, 'much like those 18th century novels where each is prefaced by a kind of a summary of the plot usually referred to as "the argument."' In preparation for he and Peggy Ahwesh's 1990 film adaptation of the book, the pair published this striking translation featuring B&W marker drawings by visual poet Pieto.
Tight, square, uncreased spine. Clean, unmarked interior. Some bumped corners, gentle edge-wear, and areas of light soiling and very subtle buckling to back matter, but nice solid copy overall. Featured Rare & Collectible.
