Sleep It Off, Lady: Stories
Rhys, Jean. Harper & Row, 1976 (1st US Edition). Hardbound. The lioness of British letters and ballpoint-pen devotee's final collection of short stories, varying in setting from the fin de siècle to the 1970s and spanning the West Indies, England, and Montparnasse. Features a likely Jacqueline Schuman–created, spot-color jacket, in keeping with the designer's wallpaper-inspired covers for Barbara Pym and Colette reissues (published, respectively, by E. P. Dutton and FSG), as well as a charming author photo by Fay Godwin, who shot literary subjects ranging from Angela Carter to Salman Rushdie to Günter Grass.
Tight, square spine. Former owner name to the front flyleaf, but interior is else clean and unmarked. Metallic stamping to spine and front board remain bright. No notable wear to the book. Mylar-protected jacket is price-clipped and has some sunning to its spine, as well as some light to moderate edge-wear. 176 pp. Featured Rare & Collectible.
