Beyond Theology: The Art of Godmanship
Watts, Alan. Vintage Books, 1973 (1st Vintage Books Ed.). Softbound. 'I did not alight in this universe like a bird arriving upon a branch from some alien limbo,' Watts writes. 'I grew upon that branch like a leaf.' The self-proclaimed 'philosophical entertainer' spent much of his life in a cabin at Druid Heights, the Marin County bohemian community founded by poet Elsa Gidlow with Isabel Quallo and Roger Somers. After a period of heavy drinking, Watts died mysteriously there in 1973 at the age of 58, his body quickly whisked away and cremated by Buddhist monks on a wooden pyre at nearby Muir Beach.
Tight, square, uncreased spine. Clean, unmarked interior. Some areas of very subtle soiling rubbing to the back cover, but else oly the gentlest of shelf-wear. 231 pp. Eastern Spirituality.
