Airships

$50.00

Hannah, Barry. Airships. Delta Books, 1979 (1st Delta Printing). Softbound. Unrealized Robert Altman–collaborator Hannah's third book and first collection of short stories, most of which were published in Esquire by the magazine's fiction editor at the time, Gordon Lish. Fantastically atmospheric cover design by Fred Marcellino, whose influential body of work includes the first editions of Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale and Tom Wolfe's The Bonfire of the Vanities. According to Steven Heller, Marcellino 'challenged the strict marketing conventions . . . that required gigantic type for the author's name and a small, literal illustration of the plot or theme . . . [and] introduced subtly painted and smartly lettered mini-posters that established allure.
