The System of Dante's Hell
Jones, LeRoi (Amiri Baraka). MacGibbon & Kee, 1966 (1st UK Ed.). Hardbound. Author photo by Leroy McLucas. An incredible UK jacket reinterpretation of the Grove Press first edition here, sanguineously shifting the original color scheme and overlapping a labyrinth over its demoniacal image. 'We don't know if he ever died,' Baraka, née Jones, once cracked when asked what he would write for his own epitaph: due to what Naila Keleta-Mae calls his legacy of 'saying the unsayable', the writer spent much of his decades-long career mired in controversy.
Tight, square spine. Former owner names to the front end-sheets and title page, but interior is else clean and unmarked. Gilt to spine remains bright. Some areas of heavy toning to the end-sheets. Jacket has some areas of moderate to heavy edge-wear and a one-inch tear to the rear, as well as some associated cosmetic tears. 154 pp. Featured Rare & Collectible.
