China Diary
Spender, Stephen and David Hockney. Thames and Hudson, 1982 (1st Ed.). Hardbound. A lovely specimen of book design which, through an amalgam of grid and overlays, expertly marries text and image in this travelogue collaboration by the best-connected in each of the two fields: poet Spender, who Ernest Hemingway, notoriously avoidant of public readings, insisted must accompany him if he was to appear at Shakespeare and Company, and artist Hockney, who collaborated with Picasso's preferred printer, Aldo Crommelynck, on several series of sugar-lift etchings.
Tight, square spine. Clean, unmarked interior. Gilt to spine and front board remains bright. No notable wear to the book. Mylar-protected jacket has only very light shelf-wear. 200 pp. Text+Image.
