Two from Arkham House
Wilkins-Freeman, Mary E. Collected Ghost Stories. Arkham House, 1974. Hardbound. Intro by Edward Wagenknecht. Jacket art by Frank Utpatel. $30.
Campbell, Ramsey. New Tales of the Cthulhu Mythos. Arkham House, 1980 (3rd Printing). Hardbound. Jacket art by Jason Van Hollander. $65.
Two uncanny collections from Arkham House, featuring striking cover art from two of the greatest. Utpatel, who here conjures a territorial fraid of ghouls, first met AH founder and fellow Wisconsinite August Derleth in the 1930s and soon after embarked on a long career with the press. And Van Hollander, whose whimsically chthonian ink work expertly evokes the press's Lovecraftian ethos, has also created illustrations for books by Thomas Ligotti, Gerald Kersh, and Clark Ashton Smith.
The Wilkins-Freeman is in lovely shape, with a ight, square spine. There is a former owner name to the flyleaf, but interior is else clean and unmarked. Gilt to spine remains bright and there is only very gentle wear to the jacket. The Campbell is also in near fine condition, with a tight, square spine. There is a former owner name to the front flyleaf, but interior is else clean and unmarked. Only the gentlest of wear to the jacket. Featured Rare & Collectible.
