Strieber, who also wrote the iconic vampire tale, The Hunger, and collaborated on cinematic projects with Kenneth Anger and George Kuchar, has referred to the image painted by Ted Jacobs for the cover of his contact narrative as 'a living mask' and compared the being it depicts to the Sumerian goddess, Ishtar. The image 'was some kind of a mnemonic device,' he has said. 'It caused . . . millions of people to remember seeing that face at some time in their lives,' and precipitated a barrage of letters to the author, a selection of which are now archived at Rice University's Archive of the Impossible.
Hardbound has tight, square spine; clean, unmarked interior; some foxing to the edges; bright gilt to spine; and jacket with only very gentle wear. Audiocassettes are in near fine shape with a cover that has some light to moderate edge-wear/bumped corners.
