Fisher, Elizabeth (Ed.). Aphra 2, no. 3 (Summer 1971). Softbound. $45.
Two issues of the seminal feminist literary magazine, named after seventeenth-century English poet and playwright Aphra Behn, and edited by Fisher, whose research inspired Ursula Le Guin's Carrier Bag Theory of Fiction. Issue 2 includes an inserted typewritten letter addressed to feminist scholar Cheris Karamerae and signed by Sharon Lebell, which requests a blurb for the book, Naming Ourselves; it features cover art by New Directions art director Gilda Kuhlman and writing by Marge Piercy and Kate Millet. Issue 3's contributors include Kate Chopin, Louise Bourgeois, Nancy Spero, and many others.
No. 2's saddle-stitched binding remains sound and has a clean, unmarked interior; ome toning to the covers, but else only light shelf-wear. No. 3's saddle-stitched binding remains sound and has a few minor instances of notes/underlining in pen; due to a production error, pages 25 to 48 are printed upside down and out of order; some areas of rubbing/light soiling to the covers.
