An incredible design specimen incorporating Halverson's lovingly composed lettering (she's known for her iconic first editions of Joan Didion's Play It as It Lays and Maya Angelou's I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings) with de Groot's innovative book design (she was also a painter who played host to John Waters at her Provincetown home), which features a striking three-page title sequence and recurring ornaments that grace the spine and front board in gilt and canary yellow stamping.
