Rolling Stone Press compiles the reportage of its contributor Thompson in this first volume of the Gonzo Papers, which features rear jacket art by the journalist's frequent collaborator Ralph Steadman and repeated instances of Mike Benton's famed gonzo icon. Depicted on the front board, in the lower loop of 'S' in the jacket title, and on the front jacket flap, the icon is a masterpiece of heraldry first created by Benton for the 1970 campaign posters used in Thompson's notorious campaign for Pitkin County Sheriff.
