Patterns: Four Television Plays with the Author's Personal Commentaries
Serling, Rod. Bantam Books, 1958. Softbound. While serving in the US Army during the Battle of Leyte, Serling was lounging beneath a palm tree listening to an impromptu comic monologue by fellow private, Melvin Levy, when a food crate was dropped from a plane above, landing on and decapitating his comrade mid-performance. This experience would shape the Twilight Zone creator's sensibility, earning him the title of Hollywood's 'angry young man', a character here on display in the frank commentary on four of his television plays.
