Herbert's meticulous research for Dune's setting is acknowledged by its dedication, 'in humility and admiration', to dryland ecologists. George Lucas wasn't so conscientious: Star Wars, like Dune, features a narrative where the hero hails from a desert planet with technology that harvests moisture from the atmosphere, and where futuristic mining vehicles share the arid landscape with many-toothed worms. Herbert, who said he found the Star Wars films 'boring', also said it took some restraint to not sue.
Tight spine has a slight lean. Clean, unmarked interior. Only very light shelf-wear to the book. Mylar-protected jacket has a few areas of heavy edge-wear, including a couple .25- to .5-inch closed tears and chips. 507 pp. Featured Rare & Collectible.
