Four Hesse titles with cover designs by the great Milton Glaser, who cofounded Push Pin Studios with Seymour Chwast in 1954. These exercises in portraiture exemplify how Glaser 'combined eclectic, often historic typography with illustrations that were idea-based, not nostalgic,' according to Paula Scher. 'Milton’s name stands for a whole school of graphic design that overcame the European, Swiss-dominated influence after the war and showed that design can be useful and fun at the same time.'
All four books have tight, square spines, and the paperbacks's spines are uncreased. A former owner name and address to the inside front cover of Reflections, but all four's interiors are else clean and unmarked. There are some areas of toning to the covers of Rosshalde and some foxing to the top edge of Reflections. The gilt to the front boards and spines of the hardcovers remains bright, and their jackets have some areas of edge-wear and creasing. Fiction/Memoir/Politics & Philosophy.
